SASHA SMIRNOVA
I'm an audiovisual artist with a background in architecture and urban design. I explore generative, 3D media, and spatial scans for audiovisual performances and installations.
In my work, I play with memory and nostalgia, creating fictional yet familiar spaces and inviting the audience to immerse into the slowness and fluidness of audiovisual experience. I work both in the art and nightlife context. I've had an opportunity to present my works at Mira Festival, MutekES, Parallel, CTM (MusicMakers HackLab), Roskilde Festival, Helsinki Black Box Music Center, Haimeny Gallery, Färgfabriken, Griessmuehle, about blank, and others. In parallel, I've been managing and producing creative projects, events, exhibitions, and music festivals.
Don't you recall? is a journey captured by machine vision and guided by immersive ambient sounds. The performance explores the topic of 3D scanning, inviting viewers to immerse into an audio-visual journey captured in 3D. Combined with CGI landscapes and sound recorded in the same locations as 3D scans, the work aims to mix fiction and reality, opening up a conversation about the definition of digital reproductions of our surroundings. 'new haven' is an interactive multimedia installation based on a self-learning chatbot, conceived as a site of human and non-human encounter within an exhibition space. Data from each dialogue between the chatbot and exhibition visitors is anonymously collected and used to increase the AI’s database, which results in the gradual transfiguration of the chatbot. This interaction allows to create an imprint of collective intelligence and speculate on topics of (un)intentional isolation, anonymity, and sense of collectivity. Learn more >>>

ASMR gifts a project that explores ASMR as an artistic and therapeutic medium to sense and discover another person's environment and feelings through sounds rather than words. Throughout April and May, we were recording ASMR triggers that we would find in our surroundings and send those recordings to each other as a gift to explore. As a result, we turned this conversation into a sound narrative that exposes our state of mind through the sound of our environment. Learn more >>>
The audiovisual performance is based on generative audio and visuals and controlled by an unconventional spatial position Gametrak controller. The string tension between performers' hands and Gametrak constrains the movements creating a unique embodiment. This communication between the performer and controller defines the design of the digital instrument and inspires physical/musical gestures and aesthetics of the visual part. Learn more >>>
